Your discovery audit includes:
Micro audit of three pages
To get you started quickly, three pages from the site will receive a micro audit, which includes automated and manual tests. Read more about micro audits.
Detailed site audit
Using tools to scrape the site, a report of every page on the site will be created, resulting in a site map to understand your site structure better.
List of all page types
Whether your site uses templates or some other method, content is output on the site in different ways. A full audit will need to consider each of these.
List of all components
Components are parts of a site that can be reused on different pages. Headers, navigation, forms, widgets, and more will appear repeatedly. This list of components will ensure thorough testing and make it easier to fix found issues by pointing to the exact component.
Complete audit plan and estimate
Once all the details are gathered, a plan can be made. This plan will list every page that will be checked to ensure all templates and components are fully tested. A representative sample will be selected to cover everything for something like a blog.
One detailed page audit
So that you will understand the difference between a micro audit report and a detailed page audit, one of the pages selected for the micro audit will receive the detailed page audit treatment. Read about the detailed page audit below.
Detailed Audit
Automated Testing
Multiple tools are used to start building the report. Some tools are better at finding specific issues than others, so the results from the tools are combined to ensure the best result.
Manual Testing
Use keyboards, screen readers, and other tools; the page is fully tested to catch all the things automated tests can miss. The tests are run in multiple browsers to ensure nothing slips through.
Mobile Testing
Finally, the page is tested using multiple real mobile devices. Due to the difference in how devices work compared to a desktop browser, it isn’t enough to test with responsive browser tools. This final set of tests completes the report.
Detailed Final Report
The final report includes any found issues and recommended remediation and prioritizes the results to highlight the most important issues to fix so you can focus on what will provide the biggest impact.
FAQs
The discovery will result in far more than an estimate. This process is the first phase of a detailed audit. The entire site is analyzed to identify every type of content, including different templates, common components, and unique components.
Once this list is compiled, a plan is created to identify all of the pages and components that will be tested. The goal is to ensure every single site part can be tested. This includes a representative sample of similar content. For example, on a site with a blog that has 1000 posts, it wouldn’t be reasonable to do an in-depth audit of 1000 posts. Instead, a reasonable, representative sample is selected.
In addition to the detailed plan and estimate, you will receive a micro audit of up to three pages, and a single page from the micro audit will be fully tested. This report is available so you know exactly what to expect from the detailed audit.
The detailed report will include tips and suggestions on remedying found issues. Your developer will be able to use that information to fix it right. I can do the work for you if you don’t have a developer. I am an advanced, full-stack developer with extensive experience in WordPress, PHP, Javascript, HTML, and CSS. I also have access to many other amazing developers I can recommend if I cannot do the remediation.
This discovery audit will result in two micro-audit reports and a detailed full audit report. These reports will help you get started with making your site accessible right away. You will also receive an audit plan and quote to complete the site audit. The price will vary significantly from one site to the next. For example, the complete audit could be very inexpensive if a site has only three pages and the detailed audit covers most components.
On the other hand, if there is a large blog, multiple templates, an e-commerce solution, and other more complex features, the full audit may be much more costly, and it might make sense to break that down into more manageable parts to keep individual costs lower while still making big progress in your site accessibility.
The full site audit will include one regression audit. This is done after the issues have been completed to verify they were correctly resolved.
It also includes an Accessibility Statement. You can put this on your site to indicate everything that was done to test the site and list any remaining issues that are still being worked on.
